1. Purpose
This policy outlines the commitment of The Lavender Lair to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults who visit our premises or participate in our events. Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
All staff, volunteers, and event organizers.
Regular customers, event participants, and spectators.
Any third-party individuals or groups who use our premises for events or activities.
3. Legal Framework
This policy is based on relevant UK legislation and guidance, including:
Children Act 1989 and 2004
Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018)
The Care Act 2014
The Equality Act 2010
Protection of Freedoms Act 2012
4. Definitions
Child: A person under the age of 18.
Vulnerable adult: An adult who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age, or illness.
Abuse: A form of maltreatment that can include physical, emotional, sexual, or neglect.
5. Our Commitment
We will:
Promote a culture of safeguarding awareness and zero tolerance for abuse.
Treat all individuals with respect and dignity.
Take all allegations or concerns of abuse seriously and respond appropriately.
Ensure that our staff and volunteers understand and follow this policy.
6. Code of Conduct
All staff and volunteers must:
Treat everyone with respect and fairness.
Avoid being alone with a child or vulnerable adult where possible.
Report concerns or allegations immediately to the designated safeguarding lead.
Avoid physical contact unless necessary for safety or consented to.
Not engage in inappropriate conversations, jokes, or behavior.
7. Safe Events and Environment
We will ensure:
Events have age-appropriate ratings or guidelines.
Supervision ratios are appropriate for the number and age of participants.
Emergency contact details are collected for all minors attending events without parents.
8. Photography and Social Media
Parental/guardian consent will be obtained before taking or sharing images of children.
Photos will not be published with full names or identifying details.
Staff and volunteers must not share images or personal information about children online.
9. Recruitment and Training
Staff and volunteers working with children or vulnerable adults may be subject to DBS checks.
All staff will receive basic safeguarding training.
Event organizers will be briefed on their responsibilities.
10. Reporting Concerns
All safeguarding concerns or disclosures must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):

11. Confidentiality
Information relating to safeguarding concerns will only be shared with those who need to know, in line with data protection legislation and safeguarding best practices.
